GREPOM/BirdLife Morocco, the National Agency for Water and Forests (ANEF) and the Marchica Agency celebrated today, 7 February, the World Wetlands Day at the Ramsar site of Sebkha Bou-Areg (or Marchica), in Nador on the Mediterranean coast of Morocco. Among the participants were the regional partners such as the Regional Directorate of the Environment of the Oriental, the Nador Tourism Delegation, and some representatives of the civil society in the region.
After the reception of the participants at the Ornithological Park and the presentation of various explanations about the lagoon of Marchica, the event continued as planned with a tour around the site with stops at strategic points, during which brief explanations of the ecological characteristics were given.
The day ended with the highlight event which is the installation of a floating raft to encourage birds, particularly sterns, to nest at the site.
This latter activity is part of the project “Contribution to the conservation of the avian biodiversity and support of the local population for the development of ecotourism in the lagoon of Bou-Areg” led by GREPOM/BirdLife Morocco with the support of its two partners and the financial support from the Small Grants Program of the Global Environment Facility (SGP/GEF).
Célébration de la Journée Mondiale des Zones Humides à Marchica (Nador) et l’installation d’un radeau flottant pour les oiseaux
Le GREPOM/BirdLife Maroc, l’Agence National des Eaux et Forêts (ANEF) et l’Agence Marchica ont célébré aujourd’hui, 7 février, la Journée Mondiale des Zones Humides au site Ramsar de Marchica (lagune de Nador). La journée a connu la participation aussi des partenaires régionaux comme la Direction Régionale de l’Environnement de l’Oriental, la Délégation du Tourisme du Nador et quelques représentants de la société civile de la région.
Après l’accueil des participants au Parc Ornithologique et la présentation de diverses explications sur Marchica, l’événement s’est poursuivi comme prévu avec un tour autour de la lagune avec des arrêts à des points stratégiques au cours desquels de brèves explications sur les caractéristiques écologiques ont été données.
La journée s’est terminée par l’événement phare qui est l’installation d’un radeau flottant pour la nidification des oiseaux.
Cette dernière activité fait partie du projet « Contribution à la conservation de la biodiversité aviaire et appui de la population locale pour le développement écotouristique dans la lagune de Bou-Areg » mené par GREPOM/BirdLife Maroc avec l’appui de ses deux partenaires et le soutien financier du programme de microfinancements du Fond pour l’Environnement Mondial (SGP/GEF).
